Before hearing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time, I was into rap/hip hop/dirty rap music and was always against the noisy drug-driven sounds of bands like Scorpions, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Extreme (except "More than Words")..But there was something about Dave Grohl's drum beats combined with those three elements (guitar, bass and voice), my mind gave me a deadline to decide, am I going to buy this album from Nirvana?..but it's a rock band... I might not like the other songs then throw my money away, hmmmm.. Is it going to be Vanilla Ice or Nirvana?.. ok ....ohh well whatever Nevermind.. Damn Album!!..goodbye to NWA and Public Enemy tapes, Nirvana made me what I am right now. A small being working my way into music until I reach the impracticable life I want to have.
"In Bloom" what kind of song is this? It's really good, careless guitar solo with powerful noise, gives me mental illness , a sudden change of heart, replacement of ears, and like entering a new realm.
Now how about "Lithium", yeahhh kick ass children song. No messing around like what other bands have done with their instruments. This is just as simple as a rock song you would spend your time listening till it ends. And it rocks big time. You could dance to the beat or even stomp and jump sloppily.
If you want to hear an intro with calmness, play "Come As You Are", follow the path of the song until you float and fall back to its tail.
"Polly" wants some cracker... "Something in the Way"...these are two intense songs of the album and its because of the silence.
I really thought loving this album was just a fad that I was just a ride on the trend back on those years but I guess I became like that baby in the pool, wanting the treasure being held by power and will never have my share until I learn to crawl on water. Better have this classic creation, it is an album, I mean you must not play just a few songs, finish the meal, have a cigarette :-D
Nevermind is the second studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991. Produced by Butch Vig, Nevermind was the group's first release on Geffen Records, which signaled its move away from Seattle-based independent record label Sub Pop. Front man Kurt Cobain sought to make music outside of the restrictive confines of the Seattle grunge scene, drawing influence from groups such as the Pixies and its use of loud/quiet song dynamics.
Nevermind was a surprise success by late 1991, largely due to the success of its lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". By January 1992 it had replaced Michael Jackson's album Dangerous at number one on the Billboard charts. Nevermind was responsible for bringing alternative rock to a large mainstream audience, and would subsequently be regarded as one of the best rock albums of all time. | Category: | Music | | Genre: | Alternative Rock | | Artist: | Edible Smoke Recess |
Not a lot of people get what punk is. Not the young kids who worship Emo (meaning "emotive" punk) bands of today because they weren't born yet when Talking Heads, the Ramones or the Clash defined the genre in the 70s or when Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and David Bowie prefigured the music in the 60s or even when Nirvana finally broke through the mainstream in 90s. But Edible Smoke Recess does. They even get Emo right. Their song "Bus Ride" rocked the airwaves. The rest of their album doesn't disappoint either. Heavily influenced by Nirvana local punk greats such as Philippine Violators and Wuds, their music bears the attitude of Sonic Youth and Helmet but with out the overbearing seriousness. This is music that a rocker can truly enjoy. "My Emo song" combines catchy hooks, brawny guitars, drums and plaintive and pained vocals with ironic witticism.
